Laura Hunter has significant expertise (30+ years) in all types of transactional corporate work, including entity formation, corporate financings (public and private), contract drafting, negotiation, and review (representing private and public companies). Laura has particular expertise in the healthcare industry, having represented medical devices, HCIT, clinical laboratories, specialty pharmaceuticals, home and hospice care, biotechnology, and other companies, as well as investors in those companies. She is well-versed in all regulatory aspects of the companies in this subset of the healthcare industry.
Laura graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of San Diego. She received her law degree from the King Hall School of Law at the University of California, Davis where she was a Law Review Editor and published author.
Laura began her career at Paul Hastings as an associate attorney. At Paul Hastings, Laura handled all aspects of corporate and securities law transactions for both companies and investors. Laura then joined Brobeck for 14 years, where she was a corporate securities partner, head of the Business & Technology Group in Orange County, and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Global Life Sciences practice. She has raised billions of dollars in capital and participated in 75+ public offerings and dozens of M&A transactions, as well as countless private company financing transactions. She also worked as inside legal counsel for one of the Firm’s publicly traded clients.
Laura has also held positions as in-house General Counsel and as Chief Legal Officer in both public and private companies for over a decade. Laura’s experience also includes roles as Chief Compliance Officer and the head of Government and Regulatory Affairs in several companies. Due to her extensive compliance experience, she can also seamlessly move within other companies in highly regulated industries. In addition, she is well-versed in the corporate governance and compliance responsibilities of both public and private companies.
Laura currently works as an independent legal and strategic business advisor to a number of companies and executives and is the outside general counsel/chief legal officer for several. She also advises companies on HR, compliance, supply chain, R&D, and other matters. She has been on the Board of Directors or Advisory Board of several for-profits and non-profit companies, and currently volunteers for several organizations. She is admitted to practice law in California.
